Congratulations! You may be awaiting the birth of your child, have a newborn, or have a child who is several months or years old. No matter the stage of parenting you are currently in, you have been entrusted with one of God's greatest gifts. In your role as parent, you will serve as the first and most important teacher of your child's faith (among other things). We look forward to helping you in this role through the Sacrament of Baptism.
Baptism is the first sacrament celebrated in the process of becoming a full member in the Catholic Church. The waters of baptism symbolize life and death, washing away original sin and cleansing the soul. At the baptism of a child (or any person), we celebrate and reflect on God's unconditional love and welcome him or her into the catholic faith.
When are they held?
Baptisms are scheduled on certain Sundays during the month. Contact the parish office to schedule or discuss baptism at 732-787-1318, ext. 1.
Requirements
- All first-time parents must attend a baptism preparation class which is held once per month at St. Catherine Laboure Church.
- Godparent(s) must be at least 16 years old, have received the sacraments of baptism, Communion, and Confirmation, and if married are married in the Catholic Church. They must be practicing their faith, attending Mass, and be willing to accept the responsibility of supporting their godchild in the faith.
- Canon law only requires one qualifying godparent to move forward with baptism. If you have two Godparents, one must be male and the other female.
